What is the difference between a DVD home theater system and a regular Home Theater System?

Question by Mr. Unknown: What is the difference between a DVD home theater system and a regular Home Theater System?
I just bought a DVD home theater system and haven’t set it up yet and was wondering if there’s any big difference, or is it just that one can play DVd’s and the other cant?

Answer by Owen E
You have made the right assumption this unit you bought has a built in DVD player where as the other ones are simply a receiver and speaker set-up. Personally a lot of these systems are cheap and sound crappy
you would be better off taking it back tell them it isn’t what your looking for and get yourself a receiver and speaker system and seperate DVD player. I would recommend looking at the Onkyo all in one systems
7.1, 1200watt system, with a 290 watt powered subwoofer.

What is the difference between soundbar and home theater system?

Answer by master_trader2006
Home theater systems consists of multiple speakers. Usually 3 for the front and 2 in the back, and a subwoofer. They can range from a few hundred to thousands. Most require a separate receiver for amplification and the production of the surround sound. Some come with built-in DVD players.

These always sound better than a simple sound bar, but are more complex to install and operate. For example, you need to run two long speaker wires to the back of the room.

Soundbars are for people who don’t want to deal with the installation of a 5 speaker system, but want better sound than what the TV can produce. They’re a great “in between”. Using time delay, they can produce surround sound effects, but never as good as a full home theater surround sound system.

So if you want something really simple, and you don’t want to run wires to the back of your listening area, then go with a surround bar. Some come with a subwoofer to give you better bass while others don’t. That’s your choice.

Is it possible to use a DVD home theater system as a PC sound receiver?

Question by Jamil T: Is it possible to use a DVD home theater system as a PC sound receiver?
My current computer speaker’s receiver stopped working. Instead of buying a new receiver i was wondering if it is somehow possible to use a DVD home theater system (Sony HT-C800DP) as the receiver? Is there any special cords i need to connect it to my computer? My computer has no special outputs for the player.

Best answer:

Answer by Daniel K
Jamil – If the receiver has a spare RCA type audio input all you need to get is a standard RCA to 3.5mm cable. The 3.5mm end will plug into the headphone jack on the computer and the RCA end plug into the input on the receiver:

Q&A: Where can I get a color wheel for a Benq 7100 DLP Projector?

Question by JR: Where can I get a color wheel for a Benq 7100 DLP Projector?

Best answer:

Answer by Earth: The Connected Home
I would be surprised if you could buy a color wheel separately, and if you could, the projector wouldn’t work again. Those light engines are assembled in clean rooms and when you open one, you basically ruin it.

Benq will have a replacement light engine, which will include a new color wheel inside. You might be able to change that yourself with success.
