How do make my LG home theater system work with my Direct TV cable?

Hey guys just recently got the LG surround sound home theater system. I have a high definition television with direct tv and would like to use my surround system with my direct tv. Does anybody know how to do this or how to connect it? Thanks
Hi both my surround sound and direct tv have hdmi outputs I guess my real question s how to get the hdmi to work on both

Your surround system receiver would need to have inputs for video and audio from the DIRECTV box. For HD video, the video input on the receiver would need to be either a component style input (3 RCA jacks) or HDMI, and for surround sound the input would have to be coaxial digital, optical digital, or an HDMI input (HDMI carries both audio and video).
If your receiver and DIRECTV both have compatible audio and video connectors, then after connecting them you would need to run the video output from the receiver to your TV, using either a component or HDMI cable.

Connect HDMI or component cables from Direct TV box to TV for video and optical or composite cables ( red & white ) from Direct TV box to Home Theater system for audio.
