will the cold effect a DLP projector?

Question by Yipperbore: will the cold effect a DLP projector?
A friend of mine wants to use his projector outside for the super bowl but hte weather is going to be 5 degrees will this hurt his projector?

Best answer:

Answer by OminousOnus
Yes, it’s possible. Minimum operating temperature for DLP projectors seems to be around 41 degrees fahrenheit and minimum storage temperature around -4 degrees. It would be best to search for his make and model.

Now, if he gets stubborn and absolutely won’t believe you, then make sure he does a few things to lessen the risk. Keep it in the house until he’s ready to turn it on – letting it get cold then turning it on will be much more likely to damage it. Take it in the house immediately after turning it off, since allowing it to get cold outside then bringing it in will cause moisture to condense inside it – which could damage it when it’s turned back on. Last, see if he’s got a small cabinet – like a VCR or TV stand – with a recessed shelf small enough to help protect the projector from the cold and wind but large enough to let sufficient air circulate around it. If he does, make him use it.

Oh yeah, don’t let him try and keep it warm by wrapping it up in a towel blanket – it needs air to stay cool!

Can you rate these projectors on a scale of 1 to 10. 1= bad and 10=great

The first one is an Epson PowerLite 77c 2200 Lumen Multimedia Projector.

The next one is a Mitsubishi HC1500 720p DLP Home Theater Projector

Answer by jukeBOXhero
Well to be honest that depends on what you are using them for…

Comparatively I would say they are about the same, but that certainly isn’t my favorite Epson projector.

e-mail me some more details, I have owned a home theater business.

Good Luck

Acer H5360 projecting 100″ image from 3.5 metres away

Sorry guys, forgot to check up on comments since posting this. To answer all your questions, can’t comment on its 3D capabilities yet as don’t have glasses or NVIDIA 3D Vision kit. I was in the market for a nice 720p capable projector at a good price point and this fit the bill in that respect alone. Re. rainbow effect. Only times I’ve noticed it is during the final scrolling credit scenes with pure black background. Even then I find it only minor and on occassion. Apart from that, image is crystal clear with beautiful colour reproduction right the way through all kinds of flicks. Not sure re. the firmare it’s running. Haven’t checked. The image is being displayed on a bare slightly off white concrete wall. I can only imagine how amazing it would look on a dedicated projector screen that optimizes its picture quality. I will also just say I am amazed at how bright this projector is. Even during the day time with the sun blaring into the room, it’s more than watchable – still vibrant, clear and sharp. Video was a 1080p resolution MKV (compressed Blu-ray). With the source being an Acer laptop with HDMI-out to the projector’s HDMI-in. Fantastic projector for the price – Have a Sanyo PLV-Z5 as well, much higher end unit that was 3 times the price. It’s a better projector, but 3 times better? – Hell no. This thing bursts with value.
